Welcome to The Beat by Rockstar CMO. I’m Ian Truscott, not a rock star, but a CMO and trusted advisor, and in this newsletter, I’d like to share a mix of marketing street knowledge that I hope will help unlock the rockstar marketer in you.

Hello!

Yes, I fell off the Beat newsletter habit.

Ironically, the last issue in April was called And the Beat Goes On.

Well... it didn't.

That’s the funny thing about habits: they are hard to form and easy to break, which is why I have a string of passive-aggressive Duolingo notifications on my phone.

I follow one of the dons of content marketing, Joe Pullizi. I think I am using the word “dons” wrongly here, as I don’t think it’s supposed to be plural, as I also consider Robert Rose to be a don of content marketing too; as a regular follower of my stuff, you will know.

Anyway, Joe or Robert say something like -

“if you stopped creating content, would anyone miss it?”

It’s a good test, and as I quietly and inadvertently dropped this newsletter, someone actually did, and asked - what happened to your Beat newsletter?

To be fair, I am inferring a lot in suggesting that asking that question mean’t that they missed it - it just mean’t they wondered where it was.

But they might have, so, I’m taking that and here I am.

I was also asked how it was different from the Tuesday 2¢ LinkedIn newsletter I publish every week, that’s also my personal blog — well… a good question.

Aside from this newsletter has issues with song titles for a name, this newsletter was not supposed to be about me- OK, a bit about me- but a curated list of articles from the community of guests on the podcast and the people, content, and research we get inspiration from.

What has actually happened is that I have ended up with a multiple-brand disorder, being the curator of 3 brands: my personal brand, Rockstar CMO, and whatever work I am doing (currently Velocity B).

Anyhoo, that’s my problem, not yours, or maybe you also have that affliction and we should talk, but if you can offer any therapy that would cure me of this, I am all ears.

So, enough about me.

This is Back to Life (which is, of course, from Soul II Soul), and here are a few things I've enjoyed reading, listening to, and thinking about from our extended Rockstar CMO band.

Have a splendid week,

Cheers,

Ian
